Jen Welter,
1st Female to coach for the National Football League (NFL)

 

Dr. Jen Welter is the first female to coach in the NFL, where she served as an intern linebackers coach for the Arizona Cardinals. This is not the first time Welter was the first to do something!

In February 2015, she became the first woman to coach in a men’s professional football league, when she served as linebacker and special teams coach for the Indoor Football League’s Texas Revolution. Prior to that, in January 2014 Welter became the first woman to play running back in a men’s professional football season, when she signed with the Revolution.

She is a veteran of several women’s professional and semi-professional football teams and a member of the 2010 and 2013 gold medal-winning USA Team at the International Federation of American Football’s (IFAF) Women’s World Championship.

Welter graduated with a B.S. from Boston College, followed by a Master’s in Sport Psychology and PhD in Psychology from Capella University. She is a native of Vero Beach, Florida.

Shon Christy, Focal Point Social Media 

Attendees will participate in an interactive and unique personal branding exercise to develop an authentic online persona and learn how to leverage their brand through social media.

This breakout session will feature topics such as:

  • Personal Brand Development
  • Social Media Profile Development
  • Social Media Brand Messaging and Support
  • Peer-to-Peer Feedback

1B:  Boom to Z: Generations in the Workplace
Brandon Costa, United Way (Vista); Annal Vyas, The University of Akron; Kirsten Lino, Huntington Bank; Joe Mazur, Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad

Panelists will break down the stereotypes of three different generations and discuss how they handle situations differently – or similarly – in the workplace. The panel will tackle a variety of topics to depict and explain the behaviors of individuals from each generation as well as questions from attendees.

 

1C: Mentoring
Cindy Biggs, C. Biggs and Associates

Are you looking for more support in your career but not sure where to start? Cindy Biggs will explain how to find a mentor and why it’s important to have one! Attendees will learn how to best utilize the mentor/mentee relationship and why they should stay engaged in this interactive session.

This breakout session will focus on the following topics:

  • How to find a mentor
  • Why a mentor is important
  • How to utilize a  mentor
  • Why it’s important to stay engaged with a mentor

 

1D:  Passion: Find it. Follow it. Keep it.
Courtney Gras, Launch League and Design Flux Technologies; Max Simon, The Fear Experience; David Hagen, Burklehagen

In the session, three speakers share their unique journeys through discovering their passion and taking action on making it a sustainable reality. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask speakers questions in this Ted-talk type format. Expect to gain inspiration for diving into your passion.
