2nd Annual Merry Mingle on Nov. 30


A  collaborative social event with AAF-Akron, AMA, NEO, NSME, NEOCC, and PRSA, this second annual holiday charity networking event benefits YEPAW (Youth Excellence Performing Arts Workshop).  $10 cover charge. There will be a cash bar, food stations, themed basket silent auction, and a 50/50 raffle.  6:00 p.m. YEPAW performance; 7:30 p.m. Raffle winners announced.  YEPAW uses the arts to engage middle and high school urban youth in activities that provide positive options for developing their talents, skills, and self-esteem.

Junior Achievement Financial Services Industry Bowl-a-Thon Event on Nov. 16


JA Bowl-A-Thons are held to raise awareness and resources to support Junior Achievement's mission: to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy.  Each year, thousands of people participate to have fun, enjoy the camaraderie and partake in our Bowl-A-Thon events! These events give companies an opportunity to give back to the community in a fun and unique way. Participants enjoy bowling, prizes, music and the chance to interact with their coworkers and peers from throughout the community.

Turkey Trot 5K Run and Kids Fun Run Hosted by Kent State University at Stark on Nov. 18


Kent State University at Stark will host the annual Turkey Trot, an adult 5K and a children’s ¼ mile Fun Run, on Saturday, Nov. 18. The events will be held on Kent State Stark’s beautiful, 200-acre campus, located at 6000 Frank Ave. NW in Jackson Township. 
The Kids Fun Run begins at 8:30 a.m. Registration takes place on the day of the event, beginning at 7:30 a.m., at Kent State Stark’s Recreation & Wellness Center.  The fee is $5 per child and may be paid on the day of the event. Participants in the children’s Fun Run will receive a medal. They also will make a craft to take home.
The adult 5K race begins at 9 a.m. Registration will take place between 7:45 to 8:45 a.m. Registration is required. The pre-pay fee, accepted through Nov. 3, is $20 per person. From Nov. 4-18, the fee is $25 per person. Participants can pay online with their registration at ohioraceday.com. If registering at the event, payment will be accepted by cash or check (payable to Kent State University at Stark). 
In addition to the monetary fee, adult and children participants should bring one non-perishable food item to benefit the Stark County Hunger Task Force. All 5K participants will receive a T-shirt and a medal. HallowScene Indoor Trick or Treat on Oct. 26


Calling all ghosts, goblins, princes, and fairies! Check out Scene75’s indoor trick or treat event, a safe night full of treats and no scaries!  Kids are back in school, pumpkin spice is everywhere, and the leaves are starting to change.  Fall is finally here! For Scene75 Cleveland this means that our first ever FREE Indoor Trick-or-Treat Event is right around the corner!  We are looking forward to seeing all of the families and smiling faces on Thursday, October 26th from 6:00pm-9:00pm for a warm, safe, and fun trick-or-treat event!
In typical Scene75 “do it big” fashion, we are preparing over a ton of candy for the event (literally 2,000+ pounds of candy)!  Located throughout our facility there will be 10+ stations welcoming costumed children to say “trick-or-treat” in exchange for a handful of candy and the occasional toy.  Plus, we will have a series of costume contests for kids starting at 7:00 p.m., with a prize for each of the winners. Last year there were some super cute and scary costumes, lets see if we can top them this year! (Ages 0-3 at 7:00 p.m., Ages 4-7 at 7:30 p.m., Ages 8-12 at 8:00 p.m.)

The Software Guild Akron Networking and Employer Recruiting Event on Nov. 1 & 2


We are pleased to announce that the next group of eager and talented developers are preparing to graduate from The Software Guild. This is an invitation to our Employer Connect event that will take place on November 1st and 2nd from 1:00 - 5:30 p.m. The format for the event is similar to a speed interview/date (20 minutes provided per person). Typically, organizations follow-up with prospective candidates soon after these events realizing our developers are in high demand. Prior to the event, we will e-mail you the developer's resumes that have signed up expressing interest in interviewing with your organization.

Development Fund of the Western Reserve Announcement


The Development Fund of the Western Reserve (DFWR), which is affiliated with the Development Finance Authority of Summit County (DFA), received the Project of the Year award from the Ohio Community Development Corporation Association (OCDCA) at its annual conference held in Toledo October 6, 2017. OCDCA is a statewide membership organization that fosters vibrant neighborhoods and improves the quality of life in all communities through advocacy and capacity building of their member agencies. The Project of the Year award was for implementing the Akron Community Revitalization Fund (ACRF) that DFWR recently fully capitalized as a revolving loan fund for projects located within the most distressed neighborhoods within the City of Akron. The award was accepted by Alyson Moritz and Rachel Bridenstine, who represented DFWR, at the conference breakfast attended by hundreds of the Ohio Community Development professionals. The ACRF project was truly a collaborative effort with over 20 organizations, many individuals, and funders. This award is an acknowledgement of the strong community vision to improve the City of Akron's core vibrancy with innovative economic development tools.

Convention & Visitors Bureau Captures Top Destination Award


The Akron/Summit Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) received its 19th “Top Destination Award” from Facilities & Destinations Magazine. The annual reader poll of event and meeting planners surveyed their evaluations of destinations throughout the United States. The Akron/Summit CVB was among only forty-seven bureaus nationally to receive this year’s distinction and one of only nine from the Midwest region.

H. Jack's Works Hard for a Cure all the Month of October 2017


H. Jack's is working hard for the cure! October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and that's why a portion of the proceeds for every service call this month will go to Susan G. Komen Northeast Ohio to fund the fight against breast cancer. This is our second October partnering with the foundation, and we couldn't be more excited to start giving back to our great community.

Akron Area YMCA Jack-O -Lantern Jog on Oct. 12


The 2017 Jack-O-Lantern Jog 5K presented by NECA/IBEW will again take place this October in Lock 3, and we will run through the historically spooky Glendale Cemetery. In addition to the race, we will have tons of free entertainment and free child watch for the little ones while you participate in the run.

The NEW Center Hosts Sales Management and Leadership on Nov. 2


Proven sales trainers Hal Becker and Marvin Montgomery have designed a hands-on workshop for sales professionals and sales managers. Using years of experience as salespeople, sales team leaders and sales coaches, they have designed a full-day experience that will give you the strategies and tools you need to excel.

Akron Racers Game Worn Jerseys are for Sale


It's Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Akron Racers are dedicated to the cause, not just in October, but all year. General Manager, Joey Arrietta, takes a break in the action in the bottom of the 4th inning to start the "Bucket Brigade." The nightly campaign is designed to collect just one dollar at time toward the Akron General Muffins for Mammograms Program. This program has developed into a signature moment that has now become tradition at Firestone Stadium the past 17 years. The AGMC program provides funding for mammograms for uninsured men and women in our community.
