Art After Five at Western Reserve Hospital on Jun. 21

Join Western Reserve Hospital, in partnership with ArtsNow, Collide: Cuyahoga Falls, the Cuyahoga Falls Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Akron Chamber for an inspired evening of networking at the third-annual Community Art Showcase.  Enjoy complimentary drinks and appetizers while you socialize and network in a creative, relaxed setting. Art will be available for purchase, and Falls boutiques will host pop-up shops.  Live music will be performed.

WAKR Speaker Series with Terry Pluto on Jun. 28

Hey Sports Fans!  Mark your calendars for Thursday, June 28, as 1590 WAKR invites you to a special benefit luncheon for the Salvation Army.  Our featured guest speaker is Terry Pluto, sportswriter, newspaper columnist and author. Akron Safety Town Seeking Volunteers in June

Volunteers are needed for a variety of positions. Most specifically needed are folks willing and able to help the children engage the activities within the small groups. Volunteers act simultaneously as mentor, chaperone, and teacher to support the adult team leaders/teachers. Volunteers can choose which day/days and how much time they want to serve. The first week is June 18-22, 8:30 a.m. to noon, Forest Hill CLC, 850 Damon St. The second week is June 25-29, 8:30 a.m. to noon, King CLC, 805 Memorial Pkwy. Volunteers can call Fairlawn West United Church of Christ's school secretary, Susan Kolarik at (330) 864-2179 to schedule dates and times.

Summit Metro Parks offers something for everyone, including the following programs and events: Sunday, April 1, 9:30 - 11 a.m. - WATERFOWL WATCH Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail / Manchester Road Trailhead / 2740 Manchester Rd., Akron Spring is a great time to view ducks, geese and other waterfowl. Geri Douglas Marshall Hired as New Director of Development

The International Soap Box Derby continues to grow its fundraising efforts as Geri Douglas Marshall has been hired as the first Director of Development. “As we are in the middle of FY 2018, we welcome Geri as Director of Development. The Director of Development position will intentionally further develop the Derby’s mission by increasing revenues and expanding our reach both regionally, nationally and internationally,” stated President & CEO Mark Gerberich. The Derby continues to make great strides in ensuring its sustainability and mission. To further development and achieve our strategic goals, the Derby has hired the following individuals to fill these newly created positions.

Akron Zoo Offering Popular ZooCamp Summer Program

The Akron Zoo is once again offering ZooCamp programs throughout the summer for children two through 15 years old. ZooCamp runs June through August and one-day, three-day and five-day camps are available, as well as full-day and half-day camps. Registration is required, and spots fill quickly.

Suntrol Earns Eastman's National Dealer of the Year Award

Suntrol, the Midwest leader in window film, received Eastman’s coveted National Dealer of theYear Award for Window Film Excellence during a special conference held in Carlsbad, Calif., February 22-25. Suntrol was selected from a field of hundreds of dealers based on dealer loyalty, growth and use of Eastman’s exclusive sales and marketing programs.

County Executive Shapiro and County Council Recognizing the Month of March as Women’s History Month in Summit County

Earlier this week, Summit County Council passed legislation that was approved by Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro recognizing the month of March 2018 as Women’s History Month in Summit County. The legislation, sponsored by Executive Shapiro and County Councilmember Paula Prentice recognizes the women of America, their historical achievements, as well as the struggles they have overcome and continue to face.

Stan Hywet Opens for the 2018 Season on Apr. 3

Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens opens for the 2018 season on April 3, with the theme of "Health & Wellness, A Life Well-Lived." Guests will begin each visit in the updated and redesigned Orientation Room. Highlights of the season include a new tour geared for youth, a new garden featuring culinary and medicinal plants, a second season of the 3-D lightshow LightNights, and the addition of the Molto Bella Car Show coming in September.

Bounce Hub Open House on Apr. 13

Join us to celebrate innovation in Akron with the official launch of Bounce - Akron's first Innovation Hub! This event is open to anybody in the community that is interested in innovation and learning about Bounce. Attendees will have the chance to network with local startups, small businesses, program leaders and supporters of innovation in our region.The open house will include:
  • Bounce companies will open the doors to their offices so you can see what our startups are up to! Each floor of the building will be open for touring

AxessPointe Community Health Centers Arlington Site Expansion Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony on Apr. 5

Our location in the Arlington Plaza has more than doubled its size!  We have added more room to serve patients, and our administrative offices will be relocating there as well.  Open to the community!  Tours will be provided. The grand "reopening" ribbon-cutting will take place at 5:30/5:45 p.m. with networking from 4:30 - 7:00 p.m., and the program beginning at 5:00 p.m. RSVP to Stephanie Berry at [email protected] by March 29.
