Gavin Scott Salon & Spa Holding Diaper Drive


Gavin Scott Salon & Spa in Stow is holding a diaper drive during the month of June. Simply drop off monetary or diaper donations during their business hours.  The diapers and donations collected will help support Portage-Summit Diaper Bank's mission to provide diapers to low-income families in our community. Monetary donations may also be mailed to Portage-Summit Diaper Bank, P.O. Box 805, Kent, OH, 44240.

In May, 6,164 diapers were distributed helping over 300 infants and toddlers.

UDS Forms Alliance with Portage-Summit Diaper Bank


United Disability Services (UDS) in Akron is now performing an invaluable service for Portage-Summit Diaper Bank. Volunteers in the BraVo! program at UDS repackage the diapers that the diaper bank receives.  If you are interested in learning more about Portage-Summit Diaper Bank, please visit our website at portage-summitdiaperbank.org or email [email protected]. Congratulations Akron Children's Hospital


CCG Automation, Inc. is excited to announce after one year of occupancy, Akron Children’s Hospital’s Kay Pavilion (KJP), is operating as one of the most energy efficient hospitals in Ohio with an impressive Energy Star rating of 88.  Year to date, Kay Jewelers Pavilion is rated higher than any other Energy Star labeled hospital in Ohio.  KJP is operating 38% below the national median– that is equivalent to annual avoided costs of over a $500,000 a year!  Great job Akron Children’s Hospital!

Hughes Party Rentals/Akron Canton Jellystone Park Presents the Area's Only Mudd Volleyball on June 4


The area’s only Mudd Volleyball takes place on Saturday, June 4, 2016.  Cost is $320 per co-ed team of 6-12 players.  Price includes one shirt and one bottled water per registered player. Prizes awarded for the top two places!  Play will continue rain or shine (excluding lightning of course).  Guests are welcome to attend for a $1 entry fee.

Huntington Bank Ranks Highest in J.D. Power U.S. Retail Banking Satisfaction Stufy for 4th Straight Year


Huntington Bank holds the top spot for customer satisfaction within the North Central Region for the fourth consecutive year according to the 2016 J.D. Power U.S. Retail Banking Satisfaction Study(SM). Huntington outperformed its closest North Central Region competitor by 18 points and received the highest score in the region for Facility, Account Information, Fees and Channel Activities.

The Cleveland Museum of Natural History Presents "The Art and Practice of Fly Fishing"

One more week until "The Art and Practice of Fly Fishing" event on Friday, April 29, at The Cleveland Museum of Natural History!  Enjoy a variety of displays, demonstrations and educational stations hosted by top-tier fly fishing talent, while sampling drinks by Brick & Barrel and Cleveland Whiskey and strolling the Museum's galleries. Fly fishing legend Jeff Currier will take the stage at 8:00 p.m., doors open at 5:30 p.m.

2016 Hope Walk Helps Support Free Cancer Services at Stewart’s Caring Place


The 10th Annual Hope Walk for Stewart’s Caring Place: Cancer Wellness Center will take place Saturday, May 7, 2016, in Fairlawn.  All proceeds for this event make it possible for Stewart’s to provide their services at no cost to individuals and families touched by cancer.  The Hope Walk is a 2.3 mile walk starting and finishing at Stewart’s Caring Place, 2955 W. Market St., Suite R in Akron.

Registration for the event will begin at 9:00 a.m. and the walk starts at 10:15 a.m. Interested walkers can register for $15 on the Hope Walk page at StewartsCaringPlace.org or send in a registration form.  They can also register on the day of the walk for $20.  Anyone can register as an individual, create or join an existing team, or donate to the event online.  The owners of both Lucky Shoes and Bomba Tacos & Rum restaurant (opening in Fairlawn in May) are offering $50 gift cards to their stores for any team that raises over $500 for the event.

Water and snacks will be available during registration and food will be available for purchase for lunch following the walk. Summit County Clerk of Courts Sandra Kurt Adds Saturday Hours to Better Accommodate Customers


Effective Saturday, May 7, 2016, Summit County Clerk of Courts Sandra Kurt’s Title Bureau, Northfield Branch, located at 10333 Northfield Road, Suite 152 in Northfield Village, will add Saturday hours of operation, 8:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.  Exceptions are made on legal holidays.

The hours of operation are being added to better accommodate residents in need of title and passport services.  The BMV adjacent in the same building also has office hours on Saturday mornings. Adding Saturday hours at the Title Bureau allows residents to complete all their business in one visit.

“Saturday morning is often the only time that working folks have to handle these necessary tasks,” said Sandra Kurt, Summit County Clerk of Courts.  “Opening our Northfield Title Bureau on Saturday mornings will make it easier for people to get these errands done without having to take time off work or make multiple trips to the same location.”

Akron Zoo to host a Party for the Planet to celebrate Earth Day


The Akron Zoo will celebrate Earth Day with their annual event, Party for the Planet, on Saturday, April 23. The zoo will showcase some of their sustainability efforts, while guest enjoy live entertainment and informational seminars.  Information highlighting some of the zoo’s green efforts and conservation will be available in Komodo Kingdom so guests can learn about what the zoo does to be sustainable and green. Guests can visit the zoo’s Green team, American Association of Zoo Keepers, Akron Zoo Chapter of FrogWatch USA and Polar Bears International. There also will be informational sessions, and live entertainment will be provided by Tom Todd: The Amazing One-Man-Band throughout the day.
