The University of Akron invites the public to the 9th Annual Black Male Summit, a national platform for best practices and innovative strategies focusing on cradle-to-career success for African-American males. The event takes place April 8-9, 2016 at The John S. Knight Center and The University of Akron in Akron, Ohio.

Kleidon Paintings On Exhibit at Greater Akron Chamber Gallery


The Greater Akron Chamber is pleased to announce an exhibition of recent paintings by Dennis Kleidon, October 13th through December 31st. The exhibit will be in the gallery area of the Chamber office on the 17th floor of 1 Cascade Plaza in downtown Akron. Caregivers Support Group Meetings


Catholic Charities Summit Adult Day Services facilitates a monthly Caregiver Support Group for those who face the challenges of ongoing care of older adults. The group offers education and support to care-givers in managing their own health and wellness while meeting the needs of their loved ones. Free care is provided for seniors while caregivers attend group meetings. Join us from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on the last Wednesday of each month. Form more information, call (330) 762-2000.

Event: 3D Manufacturing Printing Workshop with Dr. Brett Cooper


Dr. Brett Conner, one of the country’s foremost authorities on 3D Printing in manufacturing, will be our guest speaker on Saturday, October 10th at 11:30 a.m. until about 2 p.m.  Lunch will be served at 12:00 noon!  We will have food, beverages, cigars, and the opportunity to meet the speaker and others. The event will be at our Family Farm in Medina (directions below).  

Dr. Brett Conner is Professor of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering and the Director of Advanced Manufacturing Workforce Initiatives.  Dr. Conner studies additive manufacturing as well as 3-D printing pertaining to multi-material frameworks, functional graded materials for shock and power absorption applications and economic versions for additive manufacturing. Prior to his current role, he worked for the Air Force and the Mine Resistant Ambush Defense (MRAP), where he improved the survivability and  efficiency of armored motor vehicles used to shield soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. Dr. Conner received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri in physics as well as masters and doctorate from MIT in materials science and design.

The address for the Farm is 4545 Erhart Road, Medina! Take Route 18 West into and through the City of Medina. Event: Resnik Luncheon with a Notable Woman


Join Women's Network of Northeast Ohio on October 16, 2015, at the Fairlawn Country Club from 11:45 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. for the Luncheon with a Notable Woman.  This month's notable woman is Dr. Ruth Friedman, Chief Administrative Officer at Our Lady Of the Elms. This lunch/dialogue series will now be open to all Women's Network members for the remainder of 2015. Guests other non-members may attend to consider joining. Event: Medina Lunch witha Notable Woman


Join Women's Network of Northeast Ohio on October 13, 2015, at the Weymouth Country club from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.  This month's notable woman is Laurie Price, CPA and owner of HHL Group Inc. This lunch is open to all Women's Network members.  Guests are welcome to attend once to consider membership in the Women's Network.  Reservations are a must. Register online by October 9.

Event: Summit Metro Parks Presents "Dig Up Fun On Archaeology Day" October 17


From hands-on children’s activities to artifact consultation, learning is fun for all ages at Archaeology Day.

Hosted by Summit Metro Parks on Saturday, October 17, from noon to 4 p.m. at Firestone Metro Park (40 Axline Ave., Akron), the event features several local archaeology experts and groups including The University of Akron, Sugar Creek Archaeology Society and the Cuyahoga Valley and Chippewa Valley Archaeology societies.

From 1:00 to 2:30 p.m., visitors can get their hands dirty and dig up some exciting finds during an “Earthing” program led by a Summit Metro Parks naturalist.

Naturalist Pat Rydquist said visitors will have the chance to view artifacts, including a large arrowhead that was originally purchased by the Seiberling family of Akron for their personal collection. The Summit County Historical Society now keeps the arrowhead. Visitors can also bring their own artifacts for consultation by the archaeologists.
