Canal Park Main Street

The Chamber’s business retention and expansion (BR&E) program is a collaborative effort between the Greater Akron Chamber, Medina County Economic Development Corporation, Portage Development Board and Summit County Department of Community and Economic Development. In 2013, the Greater Akron Partnership was recognized as a model program by both the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) and the Ohio Economic Development Association (OEDA). Direct dialogue with C Level executives and managers has allowed the Greater Akron Partnership the ability to proactively assist those companies creating employment, opportunity and wealth in the Greater Akron Region.

Economic development results from the Chamber’s five-year strategic plan between 2009 through 2013 reflected sixty six (66) economic development projects creating 3,920 new jobs with a capital investment of $1.2 million. Over 1,900 business visitations were completed in the three county region during these five years.

The Greater Akron Chamber’s new strategic five-year plan beginning in 2014 resulted in sixteen (16) economic development projects creating 783 new jobs with a capital investment thus far of $175 million. Over 350 business visitations were completed in Medina, Portage and Summit Counties.

In 2013, the Greater Akron Chamber received the International Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) "Bronze" award for their program.
