On Thursday, March 30, 2006, the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation Oversight Commission approved a 3.9 percent increase in workers’ compensation premiums for private sector employers for the fiscal year of July 1, 2006, through June 30, 2007.
The increase in workers’ compensation premiums will place a heavy burden on Ohio’s businesses that are already challenged by the rising cost of healthcare and Ohio’s many mandates. If the hike occurs, Ohio’s private sector employers would be laden with premium increases for the fourth straight year. As Ohio’s economy struggles to stay competitive nationally as well as globally, the State of Ohio should encourage growth and development and not hamper Ohio’s businesses with another increase in workers’ compensation premiums.
