Greater Akron—The Morning Buzz is a monthly speaker breakfast series, which aims to connect small- and medium-sized businesses by facilitating the exchange of ideas and strategies for business growth and success. On Friday, June 14, 2019, join us to hear Rachel Tecca, Director of the College & Career Academies of Akron within the Akron Public Schools, present "College and Career Academies of Akron: A Community Transformation.”

Education has not changed in over 125 years, but the world in which high school students graduate into has changed exponentially. The College and Career Academies of Akron is a PreK- 12th grade transformation of the educational experiences for students so that Akron Public Schools produces a graduate ready to compete in a global society. All students will have the opportunity to explore careers both in and out of the classroom, through classroom instruction as well as industry field trips, job shadowing, and internships.

Community partners get deeply involved with an academy and a pathway where they build relationships with students, help make learning relevant and help build the talent pipeline for their organization. It is this network of community partners and real world, career-connected learning that will transform the lives of children and transform the Greater Akron community.
After earning her master’s degree from Youngstown State University in educational administration, Rachel worked in education for 24 years and served in a variety of leadership positions. She has served in the Office of Special Education, was the principal at Bridges Learning Center as well as North High School. While at North High School, Rachel led her staff, students and families in the transformation from a comprehensive high school to the college and career academy model.

Rachel’s focus is to prepare all high school graduates for college, career and life. As a founding fellow with the National Career Academy Coalition, as well as the Akron Public Schools lead with the Ford NGL network, collaboration among Akron Public Schools and across the nation allows her the opportunity to learn and share best practices among practitioners.

The Morning Buzz will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn Akron, 1307 E. Market St., Akron, Ohio 44305. Business connections, registration and breakfast begin at 7:30 a.m., and the program will be held from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. The cost is $25 for members, $50 for non-members and includes a breakfast buffet.
