Greater Akron Chamber Announces Positions on State Issues

Greater Akron—The Greater Akron Chamber announces its support of State Issue 1, State Legislative Redistricting Amendment; support of State Issue 2, Anti-Monopoly Amendment; and opposition to State Issue 3, Marijuana Legalization Amendment which are on the November 3, 2015, ballot.

State Issue 3, a citizen-led initiative, would legalize medicinal and recreational marijuana and place a monopoly in the Ohio Constitution on the cultivation, distribution, and taxation of the industry.  The State of Ohio would be the first state in the country to simultaneously legalize medical and recreational marijuana.

State Issue 2, an anti-monopoly amendment proposed for the State Constitution, would limit monopolistic enterprises being placed into the Ohio Constitution. “Placing specific industry regulations doesn’t belong in Ohio’s Constitution, along with establishing preferential treatment for certain individuals or nonpublic entities,” states Daniel C. Colantone, CCE, IOM, President and CEO of the Greater Akron Chamber.
State Issue 1 was placed on the ballot by the Ohio General Assembly to create a new bi-partisan process to draw state legislative districts. “The Greater Akron Chamber believes the new process will move Ohio closer to districts which fairly represent the population and create greater protection against gerrymandering thus promoting greater competition within some districts,” states Daniel C. Colantone.
