Laura is a community advocate for women’s wellness and breast health.  Laura was 32 and seven months postpartum when she was diagnosed with Stage 2B, triple negative breast cancer.  With the help of her caregiver and husband, Michael, and their son, James, the Allio family has been determined in raising awareness regarding cancer.  The Allio family frequently does Live Facebook feeds in addition to writing and speaking on the topic.  You can stay updated with Laura and the Allio family’s journey by following them on Facebook or through their Instagram @thenextbreastthing.
Originally from Metro Detroit, Laura attended Loyola University of Chicago for her undergraduate degree before receiving her MBA in Corporate Finance and Investments at the University of Notre Dame.  She worked in private wealth as well as corporate finance prior to taking on her role at BMF.  Prior to her diagnosis, Laura was already an active community member, making an impact through volunteering with the Alzheimer’s Association, the Women’s Network, the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Western Reserve, Stewarts Caring Place, and her sorority’s (Kappa Kappa Gamma) alumnae chapter.  She moved to Akron with her husband in 2014.  She was the Frederick B. Snite Jr. Notre Dame Leadership Award recipient in 2012, the Women's Network of Northeast Ohio Emerging Leader Award recipient in 2016 and was one of the 30 for the Future award recipients for the Greater Akron Chamber this past year.  For their work in breast cancer, the family has also received the Breast Cancer Innovation Funds’ Pink Gardenia Award and Susan G Komen’s Never Give Up Award.
Laura will also be joined by Jeannine Marks, Executive Director at Stewart’s Caring Place: Cancer Wellness Center, for a fireside chat portion of her presentation.
