Peoples Services, Inc., a public warehousing, transportation logistics company, headquartered in Canton, announces the promotion of Adam Herman. Adam was named Director of Financial Operations in April 2019 and became a member of the Board of Directors as Treasurer effective December 19, 2019. Prior to joining Peoples Services in May 2017, Adam was employed at Koch Knight, LLC for eleven years as an accountant. He is a 2002 graduate of Kent State University with a BA in Accounting.

Valley Industrial Trucks provides professional Boom Lift and Scissor lift training by a JLG Certified Trainer in the Youngstown, Akron and Canton Ohio area as well as Western Pennsylvania. Our aerial lift training is designed to teach your operators safe aerial lift operation as well as the abilities and limitations of aerial lifts.  Mandy Forlina is our JLG Certified Instructor. She is certified to train scissor lift operators and boom lift operators on all makes and model aerial lifts.

Northeast Ohio companies with roughly $5 million - $15 million in sales and a desire to grow are encouraged to apply as soon as possible for the fourth cohort of the Scalerator® NEO program, as spaces are limited. This intensive, six-month program is a proven classroom and peer-to-peer learning experience that has helped over 200 companies in the United States and around the world achieve significant, top-line growth including 40 in Northeast Ohio. The 2020 program will run April - October in Akron at Bounce Innovation Hub.   The online application and program information are available at www.ScaleratorNEO.org.  Apply by March 1.

The Butterfly Gala is the most attended and largest annual fundraiser for Stewart's Caring Place (SCP). Held each year at a different home in Northeast Ohio, this unique event brings close to 500 supporters of the agency together for an outdoor, relaxed, and memorable evening complete with valet service, VIP cocktail reception, plated dinner, silent and live auction, dancing, and more. This year, the Gala will be held on Saturday August 1, 2020 at the Wadsworth home of Dr. & Mrs. Michael & Brandi Gangel and will honor Spirit Award winners Mr. & Mrs. David & Lisa Craine.

Kent State University Veteran's Day Activities on Nov. 8

Each November Kent State hosts a Veterans Day Program to express appreciation for student, faculty, staff and community men and women who are veterans or current members of the U.S. military.  Members of Kent State’s Army and Air Force ROTC programs, staff from the Center for Adult and Veterans Services and students from Undergraduate Student Government help plan and participate in the commemoration.

Kent State Accounting Department to Host Tax Update Workshop for Small Business Owners on Nov. 8

The Accounting Department at Kent State University’s College of Business Administration invites business owners and accountants to the Tax Update for Small Business Owners.  The workshop will begin with breakfast and registration at 7:15 am. The program will start at 7:55 a.m. and will end at noon.

An outreach activity of the Accounting Department, the workshop is sponsored by Bober Markey and Fedorovich; CBIZ; and Bodine Perry. It is designed to help the small business owner navigate and plan for the effects from the 2017 tax reform. Workshop speakers are tax experts and will cover some of the most vital topics of 2017 tax reform as they relate to the small business owner, including choice of business entity, new Section 199A deduction for qualified business income, and changes to business deductions, exclusions, and credits.

“This workshop is timed so that the business owner has still has time to do year-end tax planning in view of the 2017 tax reform,” said Wendy Tietz, Ph.D., professor of accounting at Kent State’s College of Business Administration. “The speakers for this workshop are dynamic and possess a great deal of tax knowledge. We are excited to offer this workshop and help small business owners navigate these topics.” 

The workshop qualifies for 4.3 hours of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credit for CPAs in Ohio.  The registration fee is $50 per attendee. The fee covers all conference materials as well as breakfast, refreshments and parking.
