On the Table Greater Akron to Dig Into Akron's Issues on Oct. 3

Akron Beacon Journal On the Table Greater Akron returns next month with more public mealtime conversations designed to improve the community. “On the Table is an opportunity for everyone in the community to have their voice heard,” Akron Community Foundation Vice President of Community Investment John Garofalo said in a prepared statement. “We want to ensure all residents have the opportunity to participate, even if they don’t know someone hosting a conversation or are not comfortable hosting themselves. We’re excited that this will also give attendees the opportunity to meet and interact with people from different backgrounds and neighborhoods.” The conversations, headed by the foundation, are open to Summit and Medina County residents.  They will be held Oct. 3 at various locations.

Volunteer Guardian Program Needs Volunteers

The Volunteer Guardian Program is a program of Summit County Probate Court, administered by Summit County Public Health.  Our goal is to match compassionate volunteers to serve as court-appointed Guardian of the Person to individuals in nursing homes and group homes in Summit County who are no longer able to make their own health care and placement decisions. Volunteer guardians serve as a voice and provide advocacy and decision-making to those in need.

University of Akron Interim President John Green to Kick Off DriveIT's New Speaker Series on Aug. 30

Akron-based DriveIT — the information technology skills training company founded by former Software Guild leader Eric Wise — is teaming up with the Greater Akron Chamber to help teach leadership skills.  The two are launching a monthly series of events called [email protected] that will feature area civic and business leaders talking to live audiences. The events will also be archived online for the public. The series will kick off Thursday, Aug. 30, with a presentation by The University of Akron Interim President Dr. John Green: "SurrealPolitik: Leading a Medieval Institution in the Modern World."

Ms. Conrad brings extensive experience in business startups, expansion strategy and an in-depth understanding of the unique issues faced by women in the workplace. As Executive Director, Ms. Conrad’s focus will be on building community impact, organizational capacity, growth momentum, and program development. This includes the upcoming Women’s Leadership Summit: Flux, a full day conference to focus on empowering women and creating equitable workplaces in our community.

MAGNET Announces the Grand Opening of the Rubber City MAGNET office in MAGNET South!

MAGNET’s new office is designed to better serve the manufacturing businesses of Summit and Stark Counties through hands-on consulting, workforce development, new product development, and more. Grand opening to be held on August 8th with Formal Comments and Ribbon Cutting to begin at 4 p.m.  For over 30 years, MAGNET: The Manufacturing Advocacy and Growth Network, has served the 21 counties of Northeast Ohio from its headquarters in Cleveland.  As of August 8th, MAGNET will “double down” on serving the manufacturing companies of Summit, Stark, Wayne, Medina, Portage, Mahoning, Columbiana, Tuscarawas and Homes counties through opening a new office at 9 North Main Street in Akron.  The core of this critical area contains over 1,300 manufacturing businesses, according to the Ohio Manufacturers Association.  MAGNET will focus on serving the manufacturing community from this new centrally-located satellite office.

CESO, Inc. had a ribbon cutting Thursday, May 31 at their new Akron location in the Crown Pointe Office Park (175 Montrose West Avenue, Suite 400). Their former northeast Ohio location was in Canton, but they are pleased to serve all of northeast Ohio from their new location in Akron/Montrose.
