Girl Scouts of North East Ohio Has Summer Job Opportunities!


Summer is short – work somewhere awesome! We are looking for fun, energetic people to join our summer camp team. Serve as a role model and have fun working with girls aged 5-17. You will receive free room and board while camp is in session and make lifelong friends with other camp staff, including international staff. No Girl Scout experience? No problem! You bring the enthusiasm, and we’ll provide all the training you’ll need

United Way of Summit County's Bold Glow 2018 on May 18


Join us for an unforgetable evening!  We’re teeing off our 100-year anniversary in a BOLD way with a dazzling night golf experience – line up your shot in the dark, guided by the glow of hundreds of light sticks.  Enjoy a casual buffet dinner, open bar, games and entertainment before golf. Kent State University at Stark’s next featured speakers are distinct voices on the American political scene, Cal Thomas and Juan Williams.  In a fair and balanced format, the duo will debate about issues driving America’s future and political leadership at 7:30 p.m. April 12 at the Kent State University at Stark Conference Center.
With more than 60 years on the frontlines of American politics, Thomas, a syndicated newspaper columnist and Fox News contributor, and Williams, a political analysist who launched his journalistic career at The Washington Post, will share their knowledge and commitment to presenting the facts.

One of Environmental Design Group's Founding Members Passes


William J. Bandy, Jr., one of Environmental Design Group's founding members, recently passed away at the age of 78. Bill was instrumental in leading the leverage buyout of Snell Environmental to form Environmental Design Group, Inc. in 1984. He served as President and Chairman of the Board from 1984 until his retirement in 2004. He was quiet in nature but held himself with the utmost integrity and garnered great respect from his staff and peers. Dedicated to his profession, his career spanned more than 45-years as an active member of ASME and ASCE. He supported numerous student development alumni programs at the University of Akron, most notably its Women in Engineering program which encourages women to join the field. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, April 25 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home in Cuyahoga Falls. A colleague, a mentor, and a friend, Bill's presence will be greatly missed.

VANTAGE Aging (formerly Mature Services) is Seeking Nominations for Awards


VANTAGE Aging (formerly Mature Services) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that promotes successful aging by providing programs to support the needs of older adults wishing to age in place. Each year, we host the SOAR Awards (Summit Oscars for Aging Resources) to recognize those in Summit County who are making a difference in the lives of older adults. We are seeking nominations for awards that may align with Greater Akron Chamber members’ interests. The Innovations in Aging Award goes to a person or organization who has done something innovative in the last year in Summit County to serve older adults. The Age Friendly Business Award goes to a business in Summit County who strives to be friendly to older adults in how they do business.
