Girl Scouts of North East Ohio Presents Camp Ledgewood Open House on Sept. 6

Girl Scouts of North East Ohio’s Camp Ledgewood Open House: Family, Friends and S’More!

Activities include: crafts, campfire, s’mores, camp tour and raffles!  Food and beverages will be provided in the Low Lodge Dining Hall. Also, stop by Low Lodge to meet our CEO, Jane Christyson, and learn more about the Girl Scouts of North East Ohio! 

See all Girl Scouts of North East Ohio’s Camp Ledgewood has to offer! Camp Ledgewood is in Peninsula, Ohio within the boundaries of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. This 400-acre camp features Low Lodge dining hall and activity center, a swimming pool, health center, trading post, and more! Housing units include cabins, platform tents, and troop house units. Ledgewood also hosts high ropes, zip line, and low ropes courses, an archery range, sports field, amphitheater, observatory, and Lake Loomis for boating and nature studies. Owned and operated by the Girl Scouts of North East Ohio, Camp Ledgewood is enjoyed by more than 30,000 Girl Scout members throughout Ohio and is available for outside group rentals.

Earn Fall Hiking Spree Credit with District Director

This year, hikers can earn spree credit alongside the park district’s top executive.  Lisa King, executive director for Summit Metro Parks, will lead spree-credit hikes on the following Tuesdays remaining this fall:

Alder Trail – 1.4 miles / Easy
Goodyear Heights Metro Park (550 Frazier Ave., Akron)

Tuesday, October 18, 6 p.m.
Ledges Trail – 1.1 miles / Moderate
Liberty Park (9999 Liberty Rd., Twinsburg)

Tuesday, October 25, 6 p.m.
Oxbow Trail – 1.2 miles / Moderate

King said the hikes are a chance for the public to ask questions about Summit Metro Parks and keep in touch about current happenings.  “Earning Fall Hiking Spree credit is a bonus!” she added.  The 53rd annual Fall Hiking Spree, the largest and longest-running event of its kind in the nation, began September 1 and continues through November 30. To earn hiking rewards, hikers must complete at least eight designated trails. First-year hikers earn a hiking staff and shield. Veteran hikers earn the hiking shield. Rewards are free to Summit County residents. Out-of-county residents pay to receive their rewards ($10 for first-year hikers, $5 for veteran hikers).

Hiking forms are available online at hikingspree.summitmetroparks.org, the visitors center at F.A. Seiberling Nature Realm, the nature center at Liberty Park (9999 Liberty Rd., Twinsburg), the park district's administrative offices (975 Treaty Line Rd., Akron) and all Acme Fresh Market stores.  Call (330) 865-8065 for more information.

TRIAD is accepting applications for Design4Good, the agency’s pro bono design program that provides free design and interactive services to 501c3 organizations — helping them stretch their marketing budgets and make a difference in the Northeast Ohio communities they serve. Over the last two decades, TRIAD has provided over $500,000 in these services to over 70 different not-for-profit organizations

Akron Blind Center Presents Annual White Cane Walk on October 8

The non-profit Akron Blind Center provides services, classes and resources for the visually impaired.  There will be free admission, food, entertainment, prizes, challenges, giveaways, demonstrations, raffles, auctions and ceremonies to celebrate the challenges these champions overcome. Attendees can be blindfolded to temporarily experience challenges without sight.
