The Salvation Army of Summit County Presents New York Staff Bank on October 14


The performances of this 30-piece all-amateur ensemble, recently back from a tour of Cuba, have “panache and stylistic swagger” (4barsrest.com), and have earned them a reputation as one of the world’s best brass bands.  The Salvation Army is privileged to have Akron as a stop on their current U.S.
Free parking is provided in the attached City deck, 40 S. High St. for this event.  Doors will open to the general public at 6:30 p.m.  The performance is free of charge with no assigned seating, but you must have a ticket to enter.

This year, hikers can earn spree credit alongside the park district’s top executive.  Lisa King, executive director for Summit Metro Parks, will lead spree-credit hikes on the following Tuesdays remaining this fall:

King said the hikes are a chance for the public to ask questions about Summit Metro Parks and keep in touch about current happenings.  “Earning Fall Hiking Spree credit is a bonus!” she added.  The 53rd annual Fall Hiking Spree, the largest and longest-running event of its kind in the nation, began September 1 and continues through November 30. To earn hiking rewards, hikers must complete at least eight designated trails. First-year hikers earn a hiking staff and shield. Veteran hikers earn the hiking shield. Rewards are free to Summit County residents. Out-of-county residents pay to receive their rewards ($10 for first-year hikers, $5 for veteran hikers).

Hiking forms are available online at hikingspree.summitmetroparks.org, the visitors center at F.A. Seiberling Nature Realm, the nature center at Liberty Park (9999 Liberty Rd., Twinsburg), the park district's administrative offices (975 Treaty Line Rd., Akron) and all Acme Fresh Market stores.  Call (330) 865-8065 for more information.

TRIAD Announces Call for 2017 Design4Good Applications


TRIAD is accepting applications for Design4Good, the agency’s pro bono design program that provides free design and interactive services to 501c3 organizations — helping them stretch their marketing budgets and make a difference in the Northeast Ohio communities they serve. Over the last two decades, TRIAD has provided over $500,000 in these services to over 70 different not-for-profit organizations

American Cancer Society Presents Akron Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk on October 15

Akron Blind Center Presents Annual White Cane Walk on October 8


The non-profit Akron Blind Center provides services, classes and resources for the visually impaired.  There will be free admission, food, entertainment, prizes, challenges, giveaways, demonstrations, raffles, auctions and ceremonies to celebrate the challenges these champions overcome. Attendees can be blindfolded to temporarily experience challenges without sight.
