Sheila E to Perform Charity Concert Benefiting the Akron Urban League on Aug. 16

Concert will be hosted by Hard Rock Rocksino Northfield Park World renowned, multi-talented musician, Sheila E., will perform a benefit concert to support the Akron Urban League at the Hard Rock Rocksino Northfield Park. The event will be the first in a series of three-day events which will serve as the kickoff to the Urban League’s three-year sustainability campaign. As the agency approaches its 100th anniversary, the campaign will aim to ensure the organization’s future presence and growth in Summit County.

2nd Annual Merry Mingle on Nov. 30

A  collaborative social event with AAF-Akron, AMA, NEO, NSME, NEOCC, and PRSA, this second annual holiday charity networking event benefits YEPAW (Youth Excellence Performing Arts Workshop).  $10 cover charge. There will be a cash bar, food stations, themed basket silent auction, and a 50/50 raffle.  6:00 p.m. YEPAW performance; 7:30 p.m. Raffle winners announced.  YEPAW uses the arts to engage middle and high school urban youth in activities that provide positive options for developing their talents, skills, and self-esteem.

Summit County Animal Control to Hold Adopt-A-Thon on Nov. 4

The County of Summit will host an Adopt-a-Thon on Saturday, November 4, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Summit County Animal Control Facility, located at 250 Opportunity Parkway in downtown Akron. The event is sponsored by Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro and Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise.
 
Dogs and cats will be made available for adoption from the Division of Animal Control for the low price of $10 per animal (regularly $94 per dog, $60 per cat). The animals will be fully vetted (blood work, flea treatments, intestinal de-worming, spay/neuter and vaccinations) and ready to be taken home that day. Citizens who adopt a dog will also be required to purchase a 2018 Summit County Dog License for $18.
 
“Summit County’s Adopt-A-Thons have been hugely successful, and are a testament to the hard work and dedication of our employees at the Animal Control facility to find these animals good homes,” said County Executive Ilene Shapiro. “I encourage families of Summit County to come to the Adopt-a-Thon and help us find these wonderful animals their forever homes.”
 
“The Division of Animal Control does a wonderful job hosting the annual Adopt-a-Thon,” said Fiscal Officer Scalise. “My office will be there again this year to ensure dogs and puppies are registered with the County before they go to their new homes. A County dog tag is their ticket home if they are ever lost, stolen or run away.”
 
Residents are also encouraged to donate dog or cat food for the animals housed at the shelter during the Adopt-a-Thon. Consumers National Bank Receives Second Consecutive SBA "Top Community Bank Lender Award"

Consumers National Bank has received the Top Community Bank Lender Award from the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Cleveland District Office for the second consecutive time. The award recognizes the bank’s outstanding performance making SBA 7(a) and SBA Express loans during SBA fiscal year 2017, ranking first among community banks in the 28 northern Ohio counties served by the Cleveland SBA Office.

Hard Rock Rocksino Hosts a Job Fair on Nov. 9 and Buffet on Nov. 11

To honor and give thanks to all veterans, active duty military personnel, and their spouses, Hard Rock Rocksino Northfield Park will hold a job fair.  The event is open to the public.  However, veterans, activity duty military personnel, and their spouses will receive special consideration for available positions.
 
Hiring managers from each department will be on hand to conduct candidate screenings and interviews. Potential job offers are contingent on the applicant passing required drug tests, background checks, and obtaining non-gaming or gaming licenses from the Ohio Lottery Commission.  Job candidates should dress in business attire.
 
Hard Rock Rocksino expects to fill a variety of positions, including chefs, security officers, Players Club representatives, cashiers, servers, valet attendants, and more.  All available career opportunities are listed on line at www.hrrnp.com.  Applicants must apply on-line prior to attending the job fair and be at least 18 years of age. 
 
Also, on Veterans Day, Saturday, November 11, the Rocksino will salute our country’s brave men and women for their sacrifice and dedication to protect our freedom. All veterans and active duty military personnel who present their military identification will receive:

Veterans Day Recognition Ceremony on Nov. 9

Guest speaker will be Kevin Lacz, former Navy SEAL, New York Times best-selling author, and co-star of American Sniper.  Flags raised by ROTC at 10:30 a.m.  All are invited to come and pay tribute to America’s veterans.  A special invitation is extended to Kent State faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members who are veterans, active service members or have family members in the armed forces. Refreshments to follow in the Kiva lobby.  Free parking available in the Kent Student Center parking lot.

Our Beyond Vision Program allocates visual aid equipment to blind and low vision individuals. Raising Public Awareness to the daily achievements of people whom are visually impaired. We work to create a base of support for community groups forming an alliance to provide and dramatically accelerate development in visually impaired awareness. Hale Farm & Village Presents "Holiday Market on the Farm" on Dec. 1

Join us for our Holiday Market on the Farm. We will be celebrating the holidays with local artist! Fifteen local artists will be at Hale Farm offering their on-of-a-kind hand-crafted items. The Hale Café will be taken over by Bomba Tacos and Rum from Fairlawn, Peace, Love and Little Donuts will be here and Native Hill Coffee will be serving up hot cups of coffee. Junior Achievement Financial Services Industry Bowl-a-Thon Event on Nov. 16

JA Bowl-A-Thons are held to raise awareness and resources to support Junior Achievement's mission: to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy.  Each year, thousands of people participate to have fun, enjoy the camaraderie and partake in our Bowl-A-Thon events! These events give companies an opportunity to give back to the community in a fun and unique way. Turkey Trot 5K Run and Kids Fun Run Hosted by Kent State University at Stark on Nov. 18

Kent State University at Stark will host the annual Turkey Trot, an adult 5K and a children’s ¼ mile Fun Run, on Saturday, Nov. 18. The events will be held on Kent State Stark’s beautiful, 200-acre campus, located at 6000 Frank Ave. NW in Jackson Township. 
 
The Kids Fun Run begins at 8:30 a.m. Registration takes place on the day of the event, beginning at 7:30 a.m., at Kent State Stark’s Recreation & Wellness Center.  The fee is $5 per child and may be paid on the day of the event. Participants in the children’s Fun Run will receive a medal. They also will make a craft to take home.
 
The adult 5K race begins at 9 a.m. Registration will take place between 7:45 to 8:45 a.m. Registration is required. The pre-pay fee, accepted through Nov. 3, is $20 per person. From Nov. 4-18, the fee is $25 per person. Participants can pay online with their registration at ohioraceday.com. If registering at the event, payment will be accepted by cash or check (payable to Kent State University at Stark). 
 
In addition to the monetary fee, adult and children participants should bring one non-perishable food item to benefit the Stark County Hunger Task Force. All 5K participants will receive a T-shirt and a medal. HallowScene Indoor Trick or Treat on Oct. 26

Calling all ghosts, goblins, princes, and fairies! Check out Scene75’s indoor trick or treat event, a safe night full of treats and no scaries!  Kids are back in school, pumpkin spice is everywhere, and the leaves are starting to change.  Fall is finally here! For Scene75 Cleveland this means that our first ever FREE Indoor Trick-or-Treat Event is right around the corner!  We are looking forward to seeing all of the families and smiling faces on Thursday, October 26th from 6:00pm-9:00pm for a warm, safe, and fun trick-or-treat event!
 
In typical Scene75 “do it big” fashion, we are preparing over a ton of candy for the event (literally 2,000+ pounds of candy)!  Located throughout our facility there will be 10+ stations welcoming costumed children to say “trick-or-treat” in exchange for a handful of candy and the occasional toy.  Plus, we will have a series of costume contests for kids starting at 7:00 p.m., with a prize for each of the winners. Last year there were some super cute and scary costumes, lets see if we can top them this year! (Ages 0-3 at 7:00 p.m., Ages 4-7 at 7:30 p.m., Ages 8-12 at 8:00 p.m.)
